Junko Arai

From the Weird Strange Archive

Junko Arai is a photographer and visual artist whose work centers on urban nightscapes and the quiet, liminal spaces of late-night city life.

Her photography favors long exposures and muted color grading, often capturing empty streets, convenience stores, and transit stations in the hours between midnight and dawn. Arai has described her process as "waiting for a place to become unfamiliar."

She has self-published several limited-run photo zines and continues to shoot primarily on film.
